How is the face of women’s cricket changing? What does that mean for female cricketers pursuing a career in the game? How is Yorkshire County Cricket Club positioning itself to be at the forefront of this and what should we expect as women’s domestic cricket enters a new era from next season?
These were just some of the topics discussed alongside Yorkshire Women’s Head Coach Richard Pyrah, General Cricket Manager, Gavin Hamilton and players, Grace Hall, Ami Campbell and Bethany Langston at “The Opening Partnership” – a networking event for business, held at Headingley Stadium this week.
Yorkshire will enter next season as a Tier 2 club, progressing to Tier 1 in 2026. They’ve signed 12 players to full time contracts and are placing an emphasis on promoting home grown talent through the cricket club’s Academy.
Last week the club launched a new marketing campaign – “One Club. One Rose. One Yorkshire.” All teams – men’s and women’s squads, red and white ball cricket will now play under the Yorkshire Rose. It’s an alignment which means the women’s team will have full access to the same facilities as the men.
The enthusiasm, passion and desire to be successful were evident in the discussion and it was a pleasure to host the event – expertly organised by Tom Webster and Kayleigh Hallas. I look forward to seeing the progress of this group in the months to come and wish them all the very best in 2025.
