What an occasion. What an event. What a night!
It was a huge privilege to host the inaugural The MACC Academy Awards Evening at Headingley Stadium with 350 guests filling the Howard Suite.
Set up by former Yorkshire County Cricket Club bowler Moin Ashraf. In less than 2 years he’s established 15 academies across Yorkshire and the north of England with the focus on enabling youngsters from underprivileged backgrounds access to play cricket.
Former England captain Michael Vaughan shared his experiences and spoke to the guests about, passion, enjoyment and love of the game. World T20 winners Ryan Sidebottom and Ajmal Shahzad attended and showed their support while Yorkshire’s GM of cricket Gavin Hamilton and Women’s Head Coach Richard Pyrah discussed the Pathways programme and their optimism for young talent emerging through the county.
This event was about celebrating success and raising funds for two worthy causes. There were awards for the Coach and Performance of the Year, while we recognised the Young Player of the Year, the Female Player of the Year and the Male Player of the Year. Valuable funds were raised for the MACC Academy Scholarship Scheme and the The National Autistic Society via a raffle and auctions and everyone enjoyed a superb 3 course meal catered for by MyLahore Restaurants
Every so often an event isn’t just “another job” – it’s a heart warming occasion. This was an evening filled with joy. Admiration for the incredible work and success already achieved by Moin Ashraf and delight in the pure enthusiasm in the room.
It was a pleasure to be part of this event. I look forward to seeing the MACC Academies grow and wish everyone the very best of luck in the future. Your success is well earned!
