He’s one of the most charismatic players in snooker and it was my privilege to host an evening with the “Whirlwind” Jimmy White – in aid of The Eden Dora Trust for Children with Encephalitis.
The Wildcard Bar And Grill in Sheffield was packed, with guests hanging on his every word. Jimmy captivated the audience with tales from a professional career which started in 1980 and has taken in 6 World Championship Final appearances. He’s won 2 titles of snooker’s “triple Crown” and continues to compete with the World’s elite players today.
Former IBF Welterweight champion Kell Brook and ex-Sheffield United goalkeeper Paddy Kenny attended. As did Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder, who took on the Whirlwind in a 1 frame exhibition game.
Always the entertainer, Jimmy displayed the talent that has wowed avid snooker lovers down the years, recording a century break as he played 2 successful auction bidders on the night.
The evening raised £1700 for the charity and left all who attended reflecting on a hugely entertaining and enjoyable evening.
My thanks to the organisers Ricky and Hannah for putting on an event, well staged!
