How do you achieve that elusive Higher Performance goal in sport – and business?!
That was the the theme of the most recent Bradford City AFC Business Club event and there are few better speakers on the subject than Frank Dick.
Across a career spanning over 50 years, Frank most notably worked with legendary Olympic Decathlete, Daley Thompson. He was the Director of Coaching for the British Athletics Federation for 15 years – presiding over a period which is still widely regarded as the golden era in British Track & Field. He’s worked with sporting greats such as Boris Becker, Justin Rose and Gerhard Berger. The experience gained and lessons learned, now being used to help shape how we operate in a business environment.
During an hour long discussion, we discussed resilience, mentality, the team environment and competition – both from the perspective of business rivals and within your own workforce. We talked about “Breaking the mould!” and “Performing under pressure.”
In a breakout session, Frank worked his way around the tables, listening in on discussions and offering his thoughts, where invited. This was an engaging, productive and informative afternoon. One in which members established new contacts and hopefully learned different approaches to tackling familiar problems.
It was a pleasure to host and a fantastic way to sign off the final Business Club event of 2026. Many thanks to Nicola Brandon and Mick Russell for their organisation and to Cedar Court Hotels Yorkshire for their continued support, providing a venue for these events.
